Self motivation in the light of family trauma

For people working with people

One-Day Seminar

People working with people are challenged with the reality dealing with family trauma such as family violence, sexual violations in homes and family murders. These are situations over which police officials, security providers and emergency personnel virtually have no control and that have a direct impact on their own lives.

Aims to assist participants

…to find ways to improve communication when dealing with victims and colleagues. It will help them to find practical ways to motivate themselves and to deal with the issues in their own lives.

The objectives of the seminar are to:

·         Look at communication problems when dealing with the victims of family trauma.

For Pastor and leaders:

YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE COLOR SHOULD BE BEIGE

(Selection from An Enemy called Average by John L Mason, ISBN 0-89274-765-X)

Never try to defend your present position and situation. Choose to be a person who is on the offensive, not the defensive. People who live defensively never rise above average. We’re called as Christians, to be on the offensive, to take initiative. A Luke warm, indecisive person is never secure regardless of his wealth, education, or position.

Don’t ever let your quest for balance become an excuse for not taking the unique, radical, invading move that God has directed you to take. Many times the attempt to maintain balance in life is really just an excuse for being lukewarm. In Joshua 1:6,7,9 the Lord says three times to Joshua, “Be strong and courageous.” I believe that He is saying the same thing to all believers today.

Be like the two fishermen who got trapped in a storm in the middle of the lake. One turned to the other and asked, “Should we pray or should we row?” His wise companion responded, “Let’s do both!”

That’s taking the offensive.

Friends

Friends are an important source of support and strength. Being with friends while you are suffering is often very comforting and nourishing.

Some people keep their pain to themselves because they feel that they are a burden to their friends. This is usually not the case. Think of how readily available you would be if a friend came to you in pain. You will probably drop everything to lend a loving ear.

Remember: it’s always nice to have someone to talk to.
